Research & Projects

Senior Design Project                  Fall 2022 – Spring 2023

Designed and constructed a wheelchair backpack holder that allows the user to store their backpack on the back of their wheelchair and access their belongings with a push of a button.

Our designs are currently patent pending and we are hoping to improve the lives of wheelchair users by continuing to develop this product.

Dr. Vaska’s Lab                  Fall 2021 – Present

We are working to increase light collection in a monolithic scintillator for better resolution of a PET scanner.

Spring 2022

We have calibrated an array of silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) sensors to correct for unequal readout values.

Fall 2022 – Spring 2023

Engineered a gantry testing apparatus to move a radioactive source precisely around the monolithic scintillator.

We have our two detectors on opposite sides of the source (gray cylinder). One detector is up high on the rails and the other down low on the circuit board.

Fall 2023 – Present

Working on programming the FPGA for recording only data that is in coincidence(Gamma rays are recorded in the two detectors at the same time, this is a common PET method).
