Week #6: 3/24-3/28

Lynda.com is a really useful website that I enjoy a lot. I am getting my first DSLR camera for my birthday next month so I have been watching beginning photography videos on Lynda this past week. On Tuesday it was slow so Victoria and I went through Lynda.com categories to see what it provided. I figured if someone asked me if I knew a specific program, and I didn’t, I could direct them to Lynda.com.

Parth subbed for Eddie on Thursday and we played “musical phones.” Parth is silly and I was hesitant to participate in his game but we ended up having fun with consultants who were working at that time. Jenney was downstairs in Main and we practiced transferring calls back and forth. I also learned how to start a conference call and keep adding people to one call. At one point it was Jenney, Erika, Diane, and another consultant all on the phone at once.

The Help Desk phone is good because it has a screen that gives you options to choose from. The phone in Main doesn’t have a screen so you really have to know the procedure for transferring calls or you could hang up on someone.

The internship isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I like working at TLT and I feel much more friendly with my co-workers because of the internship. Next year is going to be really great.

Week #5: 3/10-3/14

Tuesday I had a pretty normal day with Adrienne and Manvir. The shift is from 6-7p.m. so the students are settled in and there aren’t usually huge problems. I think that I would be a good Site Manager because I enjoy customer service and it comes easy to me. The only worry I have is not knowing enough. I try to look at old footprint tickets regarding software issues on downtime. I’m pretty good at assessing printer issues or computer issues in person.

Victoria teaches me a lot during the hour we spend together on Wednesdays. We talk a lot about TLT and life. I’m sad that she’s graduating because I usually ask her my Help Desk questions and what the right thing to do on the phone is.

On Thursday Nam tricked me while I was at Help Desk. He Valero chatted me under a fake name. I like answering chats because I can take a second to think about what I’m going to say, and how I’m going to say it. I’m starting to feel better about the internship. I know that I know things, it just takes practice to be smooth.

Week #4: 3/3-3/7

This week Nam gave me a lot of responsibility. We had a student who was very upset, very hard to understand, and had a very hard time understanding us. Nam saw how difficult handling this person was going to be, so he let me be in control of the encounter.

I didn’t feel ready to take on such a loud, angry and disturbed person. I was actually a little afraid of him so I kept my distance. I had to spend about 20 minutes explaining to him that TLT was not stealing his print quota. The entire argument was absurd but I tried really hard to be nice to him and help him. It was a really bad experience and I’ll never forget it. I know why Nam made me do it, but I still wasn’t happy with him for making me do it.
