Grace Darling’s Time Travel Expedition Abstract
As technology modernizes and grows, museums want to implement technology into their exhibits for a modern and unique experience so that visitors can truly experience what the museum has to offer. Children also enjoy playing games and achieving goals. Gamifying their experience can teach them more about what is at the museum and can immerse them in what the museum has to offer.
Grace Darling’s Time Travel Expedition is an educational application that takes Long Island Museum visitors on a treasure hunt throughout the exhibits. Targeted at young students visiting the museum, the application will take users back to the mid-1800’s and provide clues to the users found around the exhibits. Once the users find the clue and complete the task, they will receive some power for their time travel machine so that they can go back to the present day.
We intend for this application to a mobile application connected to Bluetooth. Locations of where the clues are in the exhibits will be placed via iBeacons. Users will have to use their cameras as well so that they can complete tasks. Visual feedback will be given in terms of how close the user is to the clue and how much power they still need to collect. There will also be weekly leaderboards to show who completed the treasure hunt the fastest.
