My name is Trevor Word and I’m a first year Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering – Medical Physics at Stony Brook University. Before transplanting to New York, I completed a B.S. in Physics and B.S. in Mathematics at Oklahoma State University. In my time at OSU, I studied Bose-Einstein Condensates before starting work in medical physics. Following graduation, I started a very interesting position as an Upstream Chemicals Engineer for Baker Hughes in offshore Gulf of Mexico. While helicopter rides out to the middle of the ocean proved very compelling, it became clear that my true passion was in physics research.
My current work is involved in developing new cancer imaging detector technologies. After finishing my Ph.D., I plan to continue my work as a research faculty member.
