Welcome! I am Thomas Stransky, and here you can find information about me, my education, and my research. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at Stony Brook University. At the time of writing, I am finishing up my first semester in the Ph.D. program. During my childhood, I was amazed by scientific discoveries and wanted to make my own. Today, my goal is to improve medicine using biochemical, molecular, and genetic methods. My interests lie within the cardiovascular system as well as synthetic biology, or the creation of synthetic gene circuits. Recently, I’ve taken a liking to tissue engineering, as many of my interests can be combined within that field. In the future, I hope to direct my research towards the biochemical and genetic manipulation of human cardiovascular cells.
In my free time, I like to read about new advances in physics and biology, as I enjoy trying to wrap my head around complex concepts about the nature of our universe. In a similar vein, I also enjoy reading different philosophical arguments, especially within the existentialist school of thought. As for my more relaxing hobbies, I am an avid gamer, both digital and tabletop. I have played video games for many years, and continue to enjoy them to this day. I also have a sizable boutique board game collection, and I love showing people games that they’ve never seen before. I play tabletop role-playing games (rpgs) with many of my friends as well and, at the time of writing, I am running two fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons campaigns that have been going for over a year.
