Stony Brook University: Biomedical Engineering Department PI: Dr. Wei Yin
I am currently taking BME 520, Graduate Lab Rotations, with Dr. Yin. She focuses on studies relating to atherosclerosis, which is the primary cause of heart diseases and strokes; it is the main cause of 50% of deaths in western societies. Her lab studies how different conditions can affect platelet and endothelial cell behavior to lead to cardiovascular disease conditions. Physiologically relevant dynamic conditions, altered blood flow and stresses, are tested on platelets; the experiments consist of modeling, in vitro and ex vivo. I research thrombosis in her lab using a modified Prothrombinase Assay, testing numerous experimental conditions.
