Yanomami Struggle Exhibition

On February 11th, the POR 112 and HUS 254 students visited the Yanomami Struggle Exhibition at The Shed, in New York City.

The exhibition presents a collaboration between Claudia Andujar, artist and activist, and the Yanomami, a Brazilian indigenous people. Drawings and paintings by Yanomami artists, and more than 200 photographs by Claudia are on display.

Stony Brook students were guided by two excellent education fellows who explained Claudia’s lifetime work and the actual struggle that the Yanomami people have been facing for so long, and that came to attention again this year with the outburst of pictures of Yanomamis suffering from malnutrition and diseases because of illegal gold mining in the region.

After it, the students went to taste Brazilian savory pastries, such as coxinhas and pasteis, at Emporium Brazil restaurant.
