Background
For those that don’t know anything about Arrhythmia, here is some general background information!!
When we use the word ‘Arrhythmia’, it stands for “irregular heartbeat”.
Arrhythmia can be categorized into:
– Tachycardia: A fast heartbeat, usually over 100 beats per minute
– Bradycardia: A slow heartbeat, usually lower than 60 beats per minute
– Atrial Fibrillation (AFib): Heart palpitations, high blood pressure, can be also caused by intense workouts
The Causes of Tachycardia:
- Problems with your heart’s electrical signal
- Side effects from medications
- Overactive thyroid gland
- Heart attack
The Symptoms of Tachycardia:Â
- Dizziness
- Shortness of Breath
- Chest Pain
- Palpitations
The Causes of Bradycardia:
- Heart attack or heart diseases
- Old age (usually over 65 years old)
- Imbalance of electrolytesÂ
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Medications’ side effect
- Problem with your heart’s signal
The Symptoms of Bradycardia:
- Dizziness
- Weakness/fatigue
- Chest pain
- Shortness of Breath
The Causes of Atrial Fibrillation:
- Congenital heart defect
- Heart attack
- High Blood PressureÂ
- Lung diseases (e.g pneumonia)
- Overactive ThyroidÂ
- Narrow or blocked arteries
- Intense workouts/exercisesÂ
The Symptoms of Atrial Fibrillation:
- Irregular heartbeat
- Chest Pain
- Dizziness
- Fatigue and lightheadedness
- Weakness
- Shortness of Breath
