Newspaper Editorial
Hello hello!
So I recognize this isn’t an assignment for this class, but I just had a photoshoot in the lighting studio on campus the other day for another one of my classes and wanted to share! The idea behind this piece was to do an editorial / fashion / high art shoot that deals with the overwhelming and intrusive nature of modern day media. I’ve had this running theme in my work that discusses the media under our current political climate and therefore wanted to continue that theme with this piece. I created three separate “looks” to create a triptych-like narrative that is told through art, photography, and fashion. Hope you enjoy!
P.s. I can’t get the photos to align in the center for whatever reason – just pretend it is lol
Task 3 – Natural / Augmented / Artificial Light
Hello hello!
Here is my work for Task 3 – I tried to hold back on the creativity in these shots as a I wanted to produce work that clearly showed the differences in lighting. Typically I’d find the best lighting available and work with that so it was interesting trying to incorporate types of lighting that I normally wouldn’t shoot in!
SOPHIE KAHN
Sophie Kahn is a digital artist and sculptor who currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. I actually chose to discuss this artist because I had the honor of working with her last winter under an internship. The time I spent with her was invaluable as I learned about her art and about what it meant to live within the art world of New York City. With that said, much of Sophie’s work addresses technology’s failure to capture the unstable human body. By using a 3D laser scanner to record a model’s physical body she creates a fragmented digital body. Sophie explains that the scanner she uses was never meant to handle the dynamic nature of the human body and therefore produces glitchy data that results in her iconic imagery. While a majority of her work is in the form of 3D printed sculptures, she also experiments with prints and videos.
