Teju Cole’s “Far Away From Here”

In Teju Cole’s “Far Away From Here”, he writes of a trip that he took to Switzerland at the request of an art institution, to shoot pictures of the country.  He writes about the journey, the photographs he took and even the cameras he used or wanted to use.  Teju visits all areas of Switzerland, which is very small at about a third of the size of Alabama.  He says he quite enjoys the country and never really gets bored with the trip.  He finds all sorts of things to photograph, from the mountain landscapes shown here, to train cars, and random things going on wherever he is.  In the end, Teju shot about 80 rolls of film on this trip and wants to head back to shoot more, which he does.  Though he enjoyed Switzerland and taking the photographs, he says that he never considered moving to Switzerland or not going home.  The place was delightful, but it was not home.

Project 1: Between a dog and a wolf 2/3/18

F/22 1/320 24mm ISO1600
Early in the morning, lots of shadows exposed and very bright out and had the sun light right behind me. 9am

Later in the morning, looks very similar to the other picture but with less shadowing. 11am

F/22 1/320 24mm ISO1600
I realized with this picture that the setting on the camera were locked on Tv and shutter speed of 1/320 which makes it looked really washed out. 1pm

F/10 1/400 29mm ISO400
Very bright and very similar light to the earlier ones but again looks pretty much the same. 3pm

F/22 1/320 29mm ISO1600
Very bright day and very similar to earlier pictures with shadows shifting a bit 5pm

F/14 1/320 24mm ISO1600
Sun was down exposing the light in the background and I took a few pictures at this time to show the different lighting at sun set. 6pm

F/4 1/60 24mm ISO400
Changed the settings for this one and the camera brought in more light making this picture look more brighter then the last one. 6:15pm

F/2.8 1/320 24mm ISO1600
Played with the setting again and this picture is only fifteen minutes later after the last one but seems to have more interesting light on the horizon. 6:30pm

F2.8 1/320 27mm iso1600
Sun is completely down and very dark out. probably need to change setting for a better picture. 8pm
