“Something Neuro” & Research Ideas

Pertti Kekarainen’s Tila (Passage 1) 2006, chromogenic print

  • There’s a brand new perspective when the flatness of an image challenges the illusion of spatial depth
  • optical illusions created by emphasis on shadows, random spots of color, skews our act of seeing
  • “the photographic representation of space is completed in the eye and mind of the viewer” (The Met Museum)

The way we perceive or interact with an interior space is not limited to our visual senses- other senses such as hearing, smell, touch, and movement within the space also plays a roll. The overall experience is influenced by the size, light, materials, and intended use of the space.
