Cochlear Implants As An Option For Prosthesis

Utilizing various hearing aides or devices to facilitate augmented hearing or normate audio functionality, there are several devices used in the 21st Century that can perform these functions. One of these options includes the cochlear implants which can provide sound detection and speech recognition for people without the use of a hearing aid. Current models include an external speech processor connected to a headpiece, which can then transmit a signal to the internal portion of the implant. This part relays the sounds and speech signals transmitted from the outer portion to an electrode array surgically inserted into the cochlea, which then sets off action potentials (electrical signals) to the brain (What Are Cochlear Implants?).
