In addition to the officers and crew of the RV Yuzhmorgeologiya, there are generally 25 researchers on board the ship during our survey. Most of these people are working primarily on the AMLR Scotian Sea krill survey, but they also contribute to the LINKES project. This year, the ship is also home to two research groups studying nutrients and light availability in the Southern Ocean.  Living and working with 25 people in a 300′ ship for six weeks at a time is not easy, however being on the ship is generally an extremely fun and enjoyable time. People work around the clock (24 hours a day, seven days a week) when they are at sea, so that explains any signs of bed head, coffee deprivation, or napping contained in the pictures below.
