Leadership & Mentorship

Community of Student Mentors Program , Stony Brook University

Mentor , 2018

The goal of the Community of Student Mentors (CSM) program is to provide academic, professional, and social support through peer mentoring. Through the program, I have been paired with an undergraduate student in STEM and meet monthly to provide guidance and support.

National Society of Black Engineers , Robert Morris University

Vice President , 2016 – 2018

One of my greatest accomplishments during my undergraduate career was being elected the Vice President of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Through this organization, I was able to help underrepresented minorities with academics, revise and assist with resumes and curriculum vitaes, interview preparation, and graduate school applications. In addition, I organized multiple community  outreach programs and attended professional development conferences in STEM. Outreach programs/projects that I participated in are: the Black Male Leadership and Development Institute (BMLDI) STEM awareness symposium, NSBE Technical Outreach Community Help (TORCH) program, and a project to develop a lesson for elementary school teachers to teach students engineering.  These events gave me the opportunity to contribute to the community outside of academia.

National Society of Black Engineers 2018 Annual Convention

With over 10,000 members in attendance, the NSBE Annual Convention was an amazing opportunity to network and gain knowledge in technology and professional development. During the convention, I attended seminars and workshops pertaining to academic excellence, graduate school, professionalism, and a workshop hosted by the Navy to receive a White Belt in Six Sigma. I also had the opportunity to network with over 250 ‘big name’ employers, NSBE professionals, and scholars in STEM.
