A cold front moved through the area early Friday morning. While it was dry at Stony Brook, thunderstorms did develop along the east end of Long Island, even producing a few waterspouts just offshore of the Hamptons. Another cold front will move through the area late tonight, but no rain is expected due to dry air at the surface. An area of high pressure builds in for the weekend. However, the upper level trough will deepen, causing temperatures to be well below normal for this time of the year. Nightime lows for Saturday night and Sunday night are expected to be in the low to mid 30s, while high temperatures will only get into the low 50s. The normal high/low temperatures for this time of the year (at Islip) are 63/45.
