A seemingly human subject sits alone in a dark, empty room, face focused in contemplation with identity and vulnerability “revealed”, staring intently at a hologram of a woman projected from his floating robot companion.

U+1F491 is a look into the nature and evolution of humanity, viewed from a late 2019 perspective. In 2019, I felt that my personal use and reliance grew greater than ever. I have taken steps to be more mindful about my use, but the increase seems inevitable. Consequently, the growth with and dependence on my technology makes me feel like it is a part of me. I am one with the machine, or at least the machine is an extension of me and my electronic and digital existence matters as much as my physical one. This hearkens to classical cyberpunk literature and media where technological body modification is the norm and a purely “fleshy” body is unusual. Despite this, I am still human; I have human needs, I have human desires, I experience humanity. I can not leave to technology what keeps me from being mechanical

This persistence of humanity is something I believe that will persist well into the future, evolving alongside the homo sapiens sapiens micro evolution. However we experience it, base desires like lust and companionship are still going to drive people and our delivery and consumption methods are going to find new ways to fulfill them.

Basically, porn drives innovation.
