Our group will be investigating the benefits and drawbacks of digital linguistic tools, with a focus on Grammarly, a writing assistant that uses artificial intelligence to provide feedback on its users’ writing in real time. We will begin with a brief introduction to how these programs are created so we can better understand how their features affect their users’ writing, then explore studies about students’ experiences using Grammarly. We’ll also discuss the future of learning grammar in schools; will using programs like Grammarly replace the need to have formal grammar instruction?
Do you use Grammarly, or another writing assistant? How do you edit and proofread your writing in and out of school? What kinds of sources have you learned your rules of grammar from? We hope you consider how these commonly used tools have impacted your writing as well. Thanks for checking this out!
