Proposal for Project 2: Different, Not Less

After reading Oliver Sacks’ book and watching Dr. Temple Grandin’s TED Talk, I was
inspired. In Oliver Sacks’ The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat, he thinks that perhaps because of the appearance of prosopagnosia, Dr.P could have more abstract ideas in art. Meanwhile, the TED Talk by Dr. Temple Grandin points out that people might not be good at one aspect; however, they are certainly good at other aspects. People who are sensitive to images are better at painting and photography; people who are systemically sensitive may be sensitive to music. She gives an example from her childhood. She was never good at algebra, but her art was good. She always thinks and conceives with pictures. I think these examples fit our theme: Different, Not Less.

Therefore, in this project, I will focus on bipolar disorder. I will continue to use
photography as my medium. I am going to invite a dancer that had bipolar disorder before. When she uses her body language what she was like during bipolar disorder, I will photograph some of the moments that I think have the most impact. I might combine Photoshop or multiple exposures to approach a vague dreamlike mood.
