In this presentation, Dr. Marlene Behrmann showed us the neural basis of face recognition. Specifically, it’s about how the eyes transform what it sees into a visual signal to the brain, and how the brain recognizes the signal and gives it feedback. Using MRI scans, the scientists find out brain areas that analyze signals when people see faces, which maps out regions of the cortex. What’s surprising to me is that the people’s ability to read faces generally increases as they get older. However, there’s a term called Congenital Prosopagnosia, as we call the “Face Blindness”. The subject of Face Blindness is also in the book of Oliver Sacks. The presentation helps me a lot and gives me inspiration for the book.
