Lang Jingshan

Task 1 :

Lang Jingshan, 1892~1995

Jingshan Lang was born in 1892. He received great artistic influence by his father since he was a child. At the age of 14, he began to study photography.

It has to say that in that relatively chaotic period, most photographers would choose to shoot some pictures about people or which could reflect the time background. However, Jingshan Lang is different. Most of his works are landscapes (of course, he also has portrait photography, I don’t mean that he did not care about the country affairs). It is also worth mentioning that these landscape photos are all imitation paintings, which have the charm of Chinese ink painting.

In fact, there are many photographers who are good at shooting landscapes, especially in this era of Photoshop rampant, with some retouching, we can turn wonderful landscapes into ink style. But in that era when technology was not developed, Jingshan Lang was able to present photos in this form through his own photography skills. This is time to mention the Composite Photography pioneered by Mr.Lang.

If general photography is the beauty of realism, then Composite Photography is one to add another layer of Chinese imagery beauty.

In Lang’s Composite Photography, he collected several photos he took in different times, integrated the composition skills of Chinese ink painting, and them combined several different photos into one picture.
