I am currently focus on pursuing my degree of Bachelor of Science and on the way to become a real Computer scientist
SPARE TIME HOBBIES
Besides My academic life, I have a various range of hobbies. I like swimming, playing badminton and table tennis. There are two of them most worthy to be mentioned, shaped who i am and still going to influence me in the future:
I have been an amateur rhythm gymnastic athlete for more than ten years before college. After finding there is no gymnastic team in college, I joined the school belly dance troupe because of the unceasing inner love of music and dance, and currently playing in events around campus with my team.
MY CHILDHOOD
I grew up in the residential neighborhood of “China Academy of Railway Sciences” in Beijing, China, for the first 18 years of my life, which is a research institute grounded in the main field of railway modernization. Because of its strong institutional feature, our neighbors are mostly my mom’s colleagues including researchers and staff scientists, so I had a handful of friends who lived near and had the same background with me, and most of us even knew each other since we were born. I remember being in the backyard, running round, catching insects, and climbing trees, playing until our parents called us back. The institution’s special features enabled me to grow up in a pure happiness and academic environment. I remembered time having lunch together with our neighbors downstairs, listening to them arguing and leaps from topics to topics, politic issues, economic problems and their field of expertise. The special environment in my neighborhood shapes my value of life in some senses, forming a leap and positive way of thinking and giving me a strong sense of belonging.
MY NAME
My family name “Li” is a one of the most common surname used in china, which can be trace back to the beginning of the Shang destiny, about 3100 years ago, when the wife of a censor, who was executed because of his frankly expostulation and remonstration to a well-known tyrant, changed her name to “Li” on the way of fleeing from persecution in order to commemorate the plum tree (plum tree has the same pronunciation to Li in Chinese) that helped her survived on the way. My parents gave me a common first name “Yuening” shared by many other people. But it is a name contains their sincere blessing and wishes for me. In Chinese character, “Yue” means be happy and ”Ning” implies the peaceful life. My name gives me a feeling that the arrival of the baby girl 20 years ago was greeted with celebration, love and wishes.
THE PEKING OPERA
The amateur peking opera training in my early life also has a crucial effect on building my characteristic, taste and shaping my value of life. As a national longstanding heritage in China, Peking Opera has more than 200 years history, originated from Xipi and Erhuang in Anhui and Hubei respectively, during the Chinese culture revolution, more modern elements are added in the Opera with its own peculiar charm. Its unique solo singing, refined acting, rich percussion and funny comedians have unique attractions. Unconsciously, it sowed the love of the special voice in the bottom of my heart and changed the views point of appreciating music and art. The training in Peking Opera taught me how to appreciate the elegant, peaceful, and secluded of pavilions, bridges water, the colorful of the theatrical mask and the natural scenes of everyday life. In some extent, it makes me averse to the rock and roll music.
FUTURE
The way I look back my childhood and how my ethnicity affected it is what shapes me now and how I will look towards futue. My neighborhood and childhood formed a special way of thinking and gave a strong sense of belonging to me; the love and appreciation of the traditional opera builds my special taste and how I see the world.
No matter when and where I was in the future, the love and wishes endowed from my family and name would always be the motivations that support me to be optimism to future.
