Magical Realism

Preview of the Presentation:

I’d love to start with this photo since I believe this is just such a powerful photo since it is just so impactful, without words, a message or the girls’ emotion is delivered to the audience. Also, through this photo, I would love to show that magical realism not only includes those that looks unreal at first sight, they do include photos like this, which seem normal at first sight but it may have a more magical meaning behind it.

(Screenshoot from the film adaption of Toni Morison’s Beloved. This screen shot is from the very beginning of Toni Morrison’s Nobel Prize winning novel, Beloved, which uses the techniques of magical realism to tell the story of Sethe and her family as they are haunted by a daughter that Sethe killed on her flight out of slavery.)
