Final Project

Not Just Business

For my final project, I wanted to do something little unconventional. I wanted to do photo series that showed off that sometimes in life you have to break from the serious things and have a little fun. To do so, I wanted to show that a businessman is more than just his suit and office job. In the photo series, I gave a fun and jovial side to him that is rarely associated with businessmen. In the first two photos, I try to make a clear distinction that the man is putting aside his official business. Following those slides, I try to create a multi-dimensional and overall fun character.

Altered Perception

Aphasia: “When Your Brain Takes Your Words Hostage”

Aphasia is a disorder that is a result of damage to the language center of the brain. It is common in those who had strokes. It causes the person to have difficulty to have trouble reading and/or speaking depending on the type of aphasia. Everyday tasks can become much more difficult. Whether it is reading a sign or trying to talk to friends, things are not the same anymore. Talking to friends is isolating and intimating because you can’t coherently give input into the conversation. This is extremely frustrating for those with aphasia. They retain all their intelligence but they have struggle communicating what they want.
However, there are options that can help them communicate. Practice and therapy can help them regain their communicative and reading capabilities. Also for more severe cases where their capabilities to speak coherently, there are still options. Learning sign language can assist them in returning to conversations again. They could also have cue cards with visuals and words so that they can ask for assistance if need be. If their brains cannot return to what they were before aphasia, those affected by it has a myriad of ways to try to return to communicating again.

Capturing Capturing a Moment

Dark Path

What I discovered as a Portrait Photographer

I discovered how susceptible each moment is to change. For example, the facial expressions can change quickly. I dislike telling someone to pose for a picture. I try to capture natural moments whether it is a smile or just someone’s resting face. I let people know I will be taking their pictures and just wait for a nice natural moment. In all of my pictures, the pictures are natural moments free of dictation.

Color Portraiture

Kathryn

Kathryn has a passion for both the arts and science. I wanted to capture how that in these pictures and highlight how even though they are different fields they can still come together.  The flask represents her passion for her science while the flowers represent her passion in the arts. In the 2nd photo, you can see how a few flowers seem to be inside of the flask. This represents how beautiful and artistic science is.

Chris:

Chris is a Physics major who loves lasers. He also is a very avid gamer with a passion for sports too. So for my assignment, I wanted to capture these sides of him. In this picture, the flower represents Chris and the background are his interests. Like the flower, Chris has the type of personality that allows him to stand out from the rest.  The lights capture his interest in lasers. With that and the colors, the picture has a sort of video game aesthetic.

Teju Cole Assignment

The way Teju Cole captures images is so unique. He somehow always has a different and startlingly brilliant angle for his pictures. I would find myself intrigued by each photo by him. In this picture, he gets a unique angle on boats at sea. It reminds me of how everyone comes from different walks of life and go at different paces, but we all still traverse the same landscape. Some boats are traveling slowly while some speed past others. However, despite that, they all are traversing the water nonetheless. No matter how difficult life may be, we all are able to do it.
