My project is to seek the ignored beauty. This statement also implies that beauty is everywhere in our lives as long as we can find them and discover them. So where is the beauty around me? Today, I decide to enjoy the scenery around me. Standing at the second story of the Staller Building for nearly 2 hours, I discover it—the beautiful sunset. The sun is like a girl who is so shy, and she hides herself behind the tree. I want to say to this shy girl “we meet each other every day. Though I seldom watch you carefully, I know you are the most beautiful creature of the world, and it is you that give our life passion and warmth”.

It is spring break. Everything turns to be warmer and brighter. I drove to the sea by myself, and when I look up, I was shocked by the sunset glow, and I took the photo of it. Without any editing or PS, the sunset glow is gorgeous as a kind of artwork. From it, I always think of the impressionist artwork such as Monet’s Impression, Sunrise. In ancient time, artists can only record such beautiful scene by painting and drawing them on canvas. Today, we can use cameras to capture the movement. I believe photographers should learn from artists like Monet—we should present a unique world from our own perspectives, not just copy it and exhibit it.

This Spring Break, I “indulge” myself in the seaside to discover the ignored beauty. This photo was taken at around 10 pm at night on the long beach. At that moment, there was no people around me, even little lights can be found around. The moon and stars then become the only source of light. When the moonlight projects to the sea, the sea reflects the shimmers like tens of thousands of diamonds. The wind of the sea is gentle, like the hands of young girls. In the depth of the infinite darkness, I believe there are some spirits that are singing to me.

This is the last day I was at the long beach. I think that I have fallen in love with the sea at night. The last day, I stay up at nearly midnight. To my surprise, the later of the night, the brighter of the surface of the sea. When taking this photo, the sky even shows some blue, and the moonligt is so bright like gold. I want to name this photo as “Sunrise at midnight”, and this should be an ignored beuaty in our nature.

These two photos were taken at the Corey Beach. At the Corey Beach, more lights of the city were there, and the colorful lights replace the moonlight and stars’ glow. The first picture was focused on the colorful light around the beach. I deliberately change the focus to present a sense of haziness. The out of focus technique then makes these color lights like small “balls”, and I even want to play with these “balls”. The second photo uses the technique of shoot speed, so the movement of light can be reflected as color lines. I believe these two photos exhibit the senses of movement, and they also imply that all kinds of beauty are hard to be restored, and they are all ethereal.

This photo was taken at Target to show the empty shelves at the supermarket. Due to the Coronavirus crisis, people would buy more food and goods during their quarantine. Since I was born, I only saw supermarkets were full of various kinds of goods and products. It was the first time I found that shelves of supermarket empty. It can be a special “beauty”, while such beauty makes people feel depressed and helpless.
