PROJECT DESCRIPTION ABSTRACT

Title: DrawPalz

Objective:

To develop an interactive application that simulates a virtual spray painting or drawing experience as an alternative to real-world art creation. The software will have a 3D display to make the experience as realistic as it could possibly be. It could be used on a console with motion detection (Wii, WiiU, HTC Vive, etc.). Alternatives would include having DrawPalz be an interactive application for the computer or as a website so that users would find it easier to share their drawings and be inspired by others’ artwork. The goal is to provide a safe and fun environment for users whose mental and physical health would benefit from interactive drawing activities.

Specifications:

Designed as a casual experience for the Wii with no stressful competition. Knowledge of basic English is required. The objective for this application is to draw or spray paint anything on a canvas. Users will use a Wiimote, as opposed to a spray can, to spray paint and draw whatever they draw. The interface is meant to be as intuitive and as simple as possible without it being too naive. It will be accompanied with text and voice prompts to make the experience easier.

Target Audience:

The main target audience for DrawPalz is elders (ages 65 and older), specifically those who undergo art therapy as a way to help slow down their Alzheimer’s dementia. However, users of any age are able to interact with the application.

The biggest advantage to creating DrawPalz, as opposed to having users play the uDraw Studio games, would be that DrawPalz will not require the use of a tablet. With a tablet, users would be able to draw much more detailed drawings, but it would be too complex for users who would simply like to create without any knowledge of drawing or spray painting. Without a tablet, users are able to focus on directly interacting with their virtual environment with the Wiimotes.
