What Do You Feel?
This is a not exactly a self portrait, but my hands do a lot of the things love. Writing, painting, drawing, reading, and I also love feeling soft things. Its my favorite to touch soft, fuzzy materials (such as the blanket pictured). I also love when the sun sets or rises and casts these gorgeous and poetic shadows. Shadows just have a way of emphasizing emotions. It can make an image more sultry, sad, happy, serious. It’s hard to explain with words, thats why photos do it justice, so you can feel what I’m talking about on your own.
I’m Reaching Out To You
My inspiration for this project was nature and the feeling I get when I am in nature. Walt Whitman is one of my favorite poets/writers. He is incredible when it comes writing about nature, and one time a professor actually compared me to him — which was amazing. These photos are meant to convey the beauty of nature, which is something I feel many people over look. People are so busy with school, work, and social media. When I am walking to my classes I see so many students with their heads down, looking at their phones, and not enjoying something as simple as the breeze. I have struggled with anxiety and depression for a long time. Having that combo can be extremely draining on my soul. My babcia and dziadiza always took me outside as a child. I lived with them in my early childhood years, and they raised me to appreciate every little thing in nature. My babcia would take me on walks in my carriage so I could fall asleep in the fresh air. They both garden and grow their own fruits a veggies. Raspberries were my candy, and my babcia would turn her fresh tomatoes into soup, my absolute favorite food. I just love stopping to hear the leaves crash into each other and feel the sun gently blanket across my face and give a warm glow. I wanted to try to convey these calming feelings to all of you. Make you all feel happier and curious. Another inspiration for this project was my new puppers, who I also have photos of and was a potential project idea. His curiosity inspired me to try to make everyone in class feel more curious. He is still seeing the world for the first time, getting shocked by buzzing bees and closing your eyes and laying in the grass.
