Event Attendance Management

For each event attended, 1 BMES point is earned! To be an active member you must attend at least 3 events, but to get a BMES prize at the end of the year you must have 4  points! This is also in regards to any seniors looking to obtain a BMES stole 🙂 This year’s prize is a BMES mug!

For any senior anticipating graduation, these 5 points will be required in order to earn the BMES stole by the end of the year! For non-seniors, we are going to award top-point earners with prizes still TBD.  Keep updated for what these points can earn you!  To see your current accumulation of points see here!

2019-2020 SAC Involvement Fair

Our E-Board got to meet and interact with prospective new members!

2019 SASE Pre-Conference

In our first collaboration of the year, we collaborated with SASE and other organizations to conduct a preparatory event for an upcoming conference.  This included resume reviews, elevator pitches, interview prep, and advice on how to dress in front of professionals.

2019 BMES Pre-Conference Celebration

In preparation for the upcoming BMES Conference in Philadelphia, Stony Brook BME presenters got to practice their presentations in front of other biomedical engineering students interested in their research.  With the conference being held in San Diego next year, we hope to inspire the next generation of BMEs to represent us well in the future!

Nature’s Bounty Tour (Collab with AEMB)

With the help of the amazing Stony Brook Career Center, we were able to tour the Nature’s Bounty facility in Bayport, NY.  Students learned about the engineering and project management that goes on to manufacture common vitamins and supplements.

Tuesday Study Sessions at Main Stacks

In our newest event of the semester, students were given the opportunity to gain BME points by studying with fellow BME students at the Stacks in the library.

Arduino Workshops

Our biggest collaboration event of the semester, BMES, SHPE, TBP, IEEE and AEMB taught students with ranging coding and circuitry experience about Arduino and its applications to BME and engineering in general.

Senior Checklist Event

As a way to give BME students the scoop on which professors and classes to take in the major, E-Board members gave advice on double majoring with AMS, being a BME Pre-Med and how to just be a functional biomedical engineering student.

Dr. Chan Faculty Lecture

Dr. Chan offered BMES the unique opportunity for students to learn about her and her research in the biomedical engineering field!


Social Events

2019 BMES Ice Cream Social

In our first social event of the year, we served ice cream and provided entertainment (music and board games) to our new BMES members.  The main and extended E-Board interacted with new members, especially incoming Freshman to demonstrate an inclusive, family-like environment.

BMES Paint Night

BMES students de-stressed by painting unique paintings on canvases provided by the best E-Board.


Student Seminar Series

SSS #1

Susan Wu and Dan Mahoney presented their Biomedical Engineering research to BME members interested in getting involved with undergraduate research!

SSS #2

Yuxuan Li and Jessica Tom presented thier BME and Biology research at the Second Seminar Series of the semester!

SSS #3

Lexie Bakke presented her work with prosthetics to interested biomedical engineering students.

Martin Van Buren: An Introduction to BME

BMES spread BME spirit from Stony Brook University to Martin Van Buren High School in Queens by inspiring high school students to pursue a degree and a career in STEM.

A.L.T.S.O Fundraiser with D.P Dough

With the help of the local calzone specialist at D.P. Dough in Stony Brook, New York, we raised money on behalf of the charity organization, A Leg to Stand On.  For more information on A.L.T.S.O., click here.

STEM Night

E-Board members from BMES presented elementary school students on what biomedical engineering is and what our society has to offer!
