Internship Opportunity with the NYS Comptroller

The New York State Office of the State Comptroller’s Future Forward Internship Academy offers college students an opportunity to participate and engage in State government, and to explore the various services the Office of the State Comptroller provides through a carefully designed program tracks.  Each track focuses on a specialized curriculum, tailored to advance students’ academic pursuits and professional interests and includes hands-on professional experience within OSC’s core functions through the experiential learning component of the program.     The Internship Academy currently offers the following:

  • Track I: Auditing
    (13 Credits – Upper division baccalaureate degree category)

Available in New York City or Albany-The Auditing track provides an academic focus on accounting coursework, which lends itself to those who may be pursuing or interested in pursuing a degree within the accounting field. In addition, this track allows students to gain professional knowledge and experience performing various tasks that an Auditor would perform: working with a team on the completion of an audit; drafting reports and memorandums regarding audit finding; etc.

Summer: 15 weeks; 37.5 hours/week
Fall/Spring: 30 weeks; minimum of 18 hours/week.

  • Track II: Business Management & Accounting
    (13 Credits – Upper division baccalaureate degree category)

Available in Albany -The Business Management & Accounting track allows students to participate in an academic program that prepares them for business leadership. This track offers those students seeking a broader overview of business management practices an opportunity to expand their knowledge base on basic business practices and models. In addition to the academic component, students will have the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge within the Office of the State Comptroller in a variety of capacities.

Summer Offering: 15 weeks; 37.5 hours/week
Fall/Spring Offering: 13 Credits for 30 weeks; Minimum of 18 hours/week.

  • Track III: Human Resources & Administration
    (12 Credits – Upper division baccalaureate degree category)

Available in Albany-The Human Resources & Administration track offers students an opportunity to gain knowledge, skills and abilities pertaining to the various core business functions of human resources. This track offers students an overview of staffing and personnel, employee compensation and performance review, and labor relations. Students will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in the key operations of human resources through hands-on professional experience.

Summer Offering: 12 Credits for 15 weeks; 37.5 hours/week
Fall/Spring Offering: 12 Credits for 30 weeks; Minimum of 18 hours/week.

 

APPLICATION DEADLINE:

Applicants wishing to participate in the summer 2014 session must have all application materials sent to the Comptroller’s Internship Academy, Human Resources Office Mail Drop 12-1, New York State Office of the State Comptroller, 110 State Street, Albany NY 12236, no later than March 3, 2014.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must be full-time, matriculated students at a regionally accredited college or university, or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. All students are encouraged to apply, and all majors will be considered.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

To be considered for the Future Forward Internship Academy, students must submit the following documents:

  • Completed application, with dated signature.
  • Official transcripts in a sealed envelope from your academic institution.
  • Three reference letters in their original, sealed envelopes.
  • Resume.
  • Three-page  writing sample demonstrating linguistic and analytical skills.
