Biography

Josh Brooks, born December 4th, 1989, is a long Island based sculptor, painter, singer and songwriter, who is most known for his work in the psychedelic rock quartet Burnt Almonds.  The son of two women, Francine Brooks and Linda Weaver, Brooks was raised in the small Hudson River town of Cold Spring, NY, located just fifty miles north of Manhattan.  Early on he was exposed to a variety of music and art mostly influenced by the cultural shift of the 1960’s due to the town’s proximity to New York City and Woodstock.  Despite his talent in drawing and painting, brooks aspired to peruse a career in ice hockey, which became the driving force behind his education and eventually helped create his unique exposure to the world.

Brooks attended The Trinity Pawling School before graduating from the prestigious Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut, where he played hockey and lacrosse.  After high school he played Junior “A” hockey for the Capitol District Selects of the EJHL from which he was recruited to play for Stony Brook University. Originally planning on studying sports medicine, Brooks did not decide to peruse art until he was well into college, however, he considers the content of his work highly social in concept as the result of his wide range of life experiences with people from all parts of society.
