Hurricane Laura made landfall in the early morning on August 27 causing extensive damage along the U.S. Gulf Coast. Preliminary work by the Climate Extremes Modeling Group at Stony Brook University, led by Dr. Kevin A. Reed, indicates that human-induced climate change increased the maximum total rainfall amount associated with Hurricane Laura by over 10% in the region. This ongoing project uses the hindcast attribution methodology documented in Reed et al. (2020) and Patricola and Wehner (2018) to provide rapid attribution statements throughout the 2020 Hurricane Season.
