Technology and Me

SBDOITtechnology wordle

Hello Reader!

My name is Lillian Luu and welcome to this wonderful world full of technology! I am a junior majoring in Psychology (BS) and minoring in Business. This blog will be focusing on my journey through an internship under Teaching, Learning, Technology (TLT) and the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). I am very excited to work with students and faculty as well as getting to know the various programs offered in Stony Brook University.

Upon completing this internship I will understand my responsibilities as a senior consultant and to help assist student and faculty in applying technology into their every day uses to maximize productivity and education.

Technology has played a huge role in my life. I shared my first computer with my brother at the age of 5 years old and him at 2 years old. He and I became well informed in technology and we both started out as “gamers” and focused our attention in the virtual world. Soon I stopped playing games and focused on communication. I thought emailing and instant messaging was the best thing on earth because information got to me and my friends very quickly. As I got older and began to study a little more about psychology and business, I began to understand the importance of communication through the world wide web and began to write a little bit about my day on Tumblr. Technology is forever growing and will continue to play an important role in my life.

Update (4.27.2014):

As I continue to progress through this internship and blog about it, I would like to say that I have learned a lot about technology, myself and DoIT. I had so much fun working with SBYou and learning how to make my blog my own. I am hoping to use my blog as a reference for my future mentees. I am slowly making each post the best that it can be. I am slowly going through to make sure everything I am posting is informative and has a personal touch to it. I also plan on incorporating photos of my mentors (with their permission, of course) to show case their mentor abilities and to thank them for teaching me everything they can.

A little overview of how this blog is organized.

Weekly Adventures” include all the fridays when we would have our 1.5 hr class time. Every friday there is something different happening and I use that section to reflect on each week. I reflect on what I learned and how important it is. Within the weekly posts are the links to my shadowing posts that correspond to that week.

In the Shadow” is the page where I introduce the concept of shadowing. Under the page I have separated my shadowing posts into two categories, TLT Student Help Desk and TLT Site Managers. I plan on using these pages to introduce my mentors and lead my readers to the post that indicates the responsibilities of both Student Help Desk consultants and Site Managers.

Post length vary depending on what I was taught and if it was a slow day. Usually I would find something to ask my mentor but most of the time I have learned everything I can. Towards the end, my mentor has put me in their shoes and I would have to tend to both site manager and student help desk responsibilities.

I have learned a lot through my experience and hopefully that is something you can see as you read through my blogs.
