TLT is a huge department and focuses on making sure students are able to access the technological services they need to enhance their education. Ryan and I talked about the sites that TLT supports. Although we have 17 SINC Sites, there are computer labs that we support and some that we don’t support. As a senior consultant, we should know what TLT Supports so that we can make sure their machines are properly taken care of.
Another topic we touched upon was thin clients. Thin clients are machines that support our VSS. Every time we are on a thin client, we are on the VSS. The main issue is that the VSS has a capacity limit and if there a lot of students logging on at once, sometimes students will get kicked out or won’t be able to log in.
We talked about Print from Anywhere (PFA). Print from anywhere is really useful. It is one of our printing options in Stony Brook University. This can allow students to print from off campus (as long as they are logged into the VPN). The amount of hours the job will be in queue is 24 hours and that is a very long time. You are able to check the print queue as well. Students are unable to print color from PFA. The only way to print color is through the Windows computer in Main Library SINC Site.
Lastly is shipments. When there is a shipment, only a faculty can sign it if Rose and Pam are not there. No Senior Consultants can sign it. The procedure of shipments is pretty basic. Just make sure we have what we ordered and double and triple check before putting it on the shelf.
