Today I had the pleasure of visiting the staff from the Faculty Center in the Main Library SINC Site. The Faculty Center “is the initial point of contact for instructors interested in improving the quality of their teaching, dealing with a difficult classroom issue, or interested in assessing student learning. ” The office has many important people in there. Jen Adams, who is in charge of Instructional Technology, focuses on SB Capture (ECHO360), Captioning, SB Connect and other ways for instructors to enhance their teaching style. Jen Jaiswal is in charge of Blackboard and any issues that the instructors have with Blackboard can be directed to her.
This is a great source for new instructors and professors who are teaching at Stony Brook University for the first time. The staff in the faculty center are very friendly and willing to help instructor incorporate technology into their courses.
I find this to be very important to us (future senior consultants) to know. Senior consultants and regular consultants help many people and that includes professors and instructors.
Next, Parth took me to the TLT Media Lab where Paul was to see the Maze project. We weren’t able to see that project last time I visited because it wasn’t working properly but today I got to see this project where you use your voice to move an object through a maze. If you say certain words or make a certain sound, it can move up, down, left or right.
It was really cool and I probably did a bad job at explaining what you have to do. However, it definitely is a game for educational purposes in a music class. I can see it being used as a vocal exercise for singers to control how long they can hold their voice at a specific note.
