What better way to start my shadowing experience as a site manager than to walk into senior consultants handling a campus wide network issue? Talk about diving head first into the ocean.
This is my first time shadowing the Site mangers because yesterday got canceled due to the snow storm. It is my pleasure to be mentored by three Site managers for the day.
Ming was the first one to teach me about lotus notes and how to pull up class schedules for sites with classrooms or sites that are classrooms. She introduced me to the program as well as how to pull up the class schedule for specific sites (her’s is Harriman) and how to print it/print as PDF.
After Ming was teaching me about lotus notes, Nam let me foot print the network issue that was going on. I was thrown into the moment and to be honest, I was very nervous. I didn’t know if what I was typing was correct because I had my shadowing shift right in the middle of the problem. However, I tried to ask questions as to what is happening and described the situation as specific as I can. This definitely taught me that communication is very important and I should always ask questions!
For last 30 minutes, Parth and I went over the staff members of TLT and DoIT as well as gone over the important numbers that I should know. It was very hard because he was asking me questions I never asked myself and normally these numbers would be in my phone. However, I understand the importance of knowing the people in the department and knowing important phone numbers because it helps me stay connected as well as get to know what is happening around the department.
