Blackboard Inc is an education management software that helps professors and instructors manage their course contents in online and allows students to access many of their current class contents all at once.
Today we were introduced to Jennifer Jaiswal, who is the main contact for any questions in regards to Blackboard. She taught us many new updates about Blackboard because the interface of Blackboard changed on 12/30/2013 and a lot of people were confused as to how to navigate through the new site.
Jennifer went through different functions such as how to add content such as videos, pictures, documents and more in a folder. She created a fake course and added all of the interns as “Course Builders” so we can experiment with the website and different features while Jennifer was talking.
I asked Jennifer what was the difference between “Course Builders” and “Teaching Assistant” in terms of accessibility because I am a teaching assistant for two courses and I noticed there were different sections for “Course Builders” and “Teaching Assistants”. I learned that there is a hierarchy in terms of accessibility in Blackboard and depending who you are will allow you access certain content of the course. I thought that was very interesting.
This specific topic is very important because a lot of instructors, students and even clubs use Blackboard and it is good to know the ins and outs of the system. This will help with being a Senior Consultant especially one who is specifically a TLT Help Desk Student Consultant.
