This summer, I was given the opportunity to manage numerous research and development projects at Make Mode, a Brooklyn-based local 3D Printing company. I developed web resources for those beginning in 3D Printing. I created a database of 16 different design softwares, compiled a comprehensive list of all 3D Printing companies in New York City and Brooklyn, as well as an article outlining important tips and tricks for 3D printing models accurately and to scale.
The remainder of my time focused on post processing of 3D printed materials. I designed and implemented numerous experiments using PLA, Sandstone, and ABS printed objects, exploring different options such as spray painting, electroplating, and chemical treatments. Through these experiments and my reports, Make Mode now has proper internal protocol documentation and a database of multiple post processing techniques.
