Reflection:

As I photographed portraits, I understood more and more that a portrait does not necessarily need to include one’s face in order to tell a story about the person. I found it very difficult to take portrait photos of people I did not know, as I did not know what story I was sharing, only had what was in front of me. Before I began shooting I planned out ideas for portraits, but after taking the photos of people I didn’t know, I thought about continuing to explore photographing the rest of my portraits without a plan. The experience of doing so was more challenging than I had expected, but that had made it all the more entertaining to shoot. I discovered in this process how one can see themselves in the portraits of others and connect to them as if it were their own portrait. This project has inspired me to continue shooting portraits and exploring various options of editing, layering, and planning.
