Before coming to the U.S to start my academic career I moved around a lot. I was born in Honduras and have moved back and forth between Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Pakistan (Let me know if you’re from any of these places! I love to reminesce). Something that all these places have in common is a fractured health care system, and this has sparked my interest in developing cost-effective medical devices that can be applied in developing countries. This has fueled my interest in biomaterials, point-of-care diagnostics(POC), and microfluidics.
