Presidential Diversity Postdoctoral Fellowship Binghamton University is a world-class institution that unites more than 130 broadly interdisciplinary educational programs with some of the most vibrant research in the nation. Our unique character – shaped by outstanding academics, facilities and community life – promotes extraordinary student success.

Increasing campus diversity is one of Binghamton University’s most important strategic priorities. Binghamton is meeting this challenge with the establishment of a program of Presidential Diversity Postdoctoral Fellowships that will allow the university to better recruit highly qualified candidates for research and scholarship in disciplines that have found it difficult to attract a diverse faculty. This fellowship program mirrors the goals of the SUNY faculty diversity program which advance diversity and inclusive excellence by encouraging the recruitment, retention and promotion of outstanding scholars from different backgrounds, including individuals from groups who have historically been underrepresented in higher education

Our goal is to develop top-tier candidates when faculty positions appear in these departments, so that they may remain at Binghamton in a tenure track capacity when their postdoctoral work is completed.  Each fellowship appointment is up to two years. Persons interested in this position should apply online here.

NSF Design and Development Workshop A NSF and Development Launch Pilot is conducting a semi-supported workshop called: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Earth and Environmental Sciences: Supporting the Success of All Students. This workshop will focus on supporting the success of all students, including addressing the diversity of your program’s student body, evaluating and strengthening your program design, and incorporating inclusive and equitable teaching practices. Based on changing demographics, we can no longer rely on the same methods of attracting and nurturing students, as there will be fewer of the demographic groups the sciences have traditionally drawn from. Additionally, our science and society need diverse geoscientists, and our professional ethics demand equitable educational opportunities for all. Earth and environmental science programs need to appeal to a more diverse population to remain a thriving and relevant community poised to meet the needs of our society. Find more information here .

SBU Three Minute Thesis Competition 2019 Three Minute Thesis, is a spoken word thesis competition. 3MT is an opportunity for SBU graduate students to present their dissertation research findings to a general audience in three minutes with only one PowerPoint slide. Three Minutes Thesis is an international event founded at the University of Queensland. The goal for students to engage all their communication skills to make their research vivid and engaging while emphasizing its key point without jargon.

Graduate students who compete will receive specialized coaching. Speakers will work with coaches from the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science. The nationally recognized Alda center at Stony Brook works with researchers to help them communicate more effectively with the public, the media and others outside their own specialty. Sign up here .

Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF) 2019 Each year the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF) strives to identify and recognize secondary school students, predominately in grades 9-12, from public, private, and parochial schools in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, with the potential to become outstanding natural, physical and behavioral scientists, engineers, mathematicians and computer scientists. To this end, we organize a yearly forum for such outstanding students to submit and exhibit their research projects in an effort to identify and select finalists from over 500 student participants to compete at the annual International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Inevitably, we find ourselves in need of qualified judges each year to help evaluate student projects in 22 disciplines. Judges are typically asked to evaluate and score between 8-12 projects, depending on the category. We are asking all qualified individuals (medical/veterinary doctors, university faculty, post-doctoral associates, graduate students, engineers with field experience) to consider assisting us on either or both days of our fair to be held at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, NY on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 and on Thursday, March 14, 2019. We have the greatest need for judges on the February 6th date, but are more than happy to have volunteer judges on either or both dates. Judges are asked to register by 8 AM both days and can expect to leave by 3 PM on February 6 th and 1:30 PM on March 14 th. All judges are provided a continental breakfast and a buffet lunch. To register as a judge for one or both fair dates, please visit our website at: www.lisef.org and follow the directions below 1) Click the “ LISEF Judges” button (under the image slideshow). 2) Click the “ Register Now!” button. 3) Select and enter a username and password, your e-mail address, name, degree (or degree status), phone contact numbers, and employer name and address and click the “ Continue Registration” button. 4) Confirm that your login information is correct on the screen and click “ Continue Registration” button. 5) Select the date or dates you would like to judge at the fair and select your top choices of category preference. Select the number of years you have previously served as a judge for our fair and if you would like to recommend a colleague for judging, fill in those fields as well. Finally, click the “ Complete Registration” button.

Canada/USA Matchcamp Positions Canada/USA Mathcamp ( www.mathcamp.org ) is a summer program for talented high school students from all over the United States, Canada, and the rest of the world. At Mathcamp, students interact with world-class mathematicians, explore advanced topics in mathematics, and find a true intellectual peer group. The mentor job is a hybrid between a teaching position and a camp counselor role. Your primary responsibility is to teach great classes, and you’ll be doing this in the context of a residential summer program: you live, eat, and play with the campers. It’s a lot of work and a lot of fun. As a mentor at Mathcamp, you get an amazing teaching experience: there is no set curriculum, so you create your own classes and teach the math you’re interested in. From group theory to projective geometry, from complex analysis to cryptography, from fractals to voting theory – there is an abundance of mathematics that can be taught (with a little imagination) at camp level. You’ll have support (in both curriculum design and pedagogy) from master teachers, and you’ll work with students who are exceptionally smart and engaged.

Since women and minority students often face a shortage of role models in mathematics, we are especially eager to recruit mentors from these groups. For more information on the position and how to apply, visit  http://www.mathcamp.org/mentor/ .

Rutgers University Summer Research Program is a nationally acclaimed summer research program for outstanding undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. Scholars participate in 10 weeks of cutting-edge research in the biological, physical, and social/ behavioral sciences, math, engineering, and exciting interdisciplinary areas under the guidance of carefully matched faculty mentors. A comprehensive professional development component, including GRE preparation, complements the research.

We particularly encourage applications from students from underrepresented, disadvantaged, non-traditional or first-generation college backgrounds or who attend schools with limited research opportunities. The program will be from My 28 – August 2, 2019. Although there is not a hard deadline, it is recommended that you apply by February 1. Apply here.

  1. This is a very correct approach to learning, where professional development is encouraged to apply from disadvantaged, nontraditional or first generation college students, or students from schools with research disabilities. I have studied the issue of different class attitudes towards different sectors of society and conducted research on this topic as well as on the topic of sexual harassment. I have used, this link https://papersowl.com/examples/sexual-harassment/, amazing professional tools to do my research. As a result, I got excellent material.
