Thanks to everyone who turned out for SoMAS Souper Bowl I!  We had a great time and raised $373 for the Protopopescu Teaching Award.  A dozen of the best cooks at SoMAS fired burners, simmered stock, and selected ingredients.  Entries included:

Black Bean, Red Pepper, and Cumin Chili – Karen Warren

Chickpea and White Bean – Beth Jacobwitz
Fagioli e Verdure – Steve Beaupre
Fasolada – Gina Gartin
Go Pats! Irish Stew – Sara Ganetis
Red Lentil – Steve Ortega
Veggie Tortilla – Jackie Collier
Yellow Squash, Parsnip, and Carrot – Anne McElroy

0130150001~2Determining the best entries from such a distinguished field was an extremely difficult and somewhat fattening task.  Everyone who attended received three tickets to be used as “votes” to drop in one or more of the ballot boxes in front of each kettle.  After a secret ballot tallied by the newly formed accounting firm of Bowman Lang Markowitz & Masson, the following were chosen for special recognition:

Gold ladle: Sopa Cubana – Janice Taylor
Silver ladle: New England Clam Chowder – Kim Knoll
Bronze ladle (tie): Steak Chili – Stefanie Massucci
Bronze ladle (tie): Vegetable Beef – Tom Wilson

Many thanks to volunteers Carol Dovi, Alex Sneddon, Mala Masson, and those who contributed baked goods – maybe next year we’ll award bronze, silver, and gold oven mitts too.

It was a great event that we will definitely repeat.  See you next year!
