Artist Statement in the workings….

I picked up my first camera sort of by accident, I was in an art class trying to create a unique Vinyl cover and I didn’t want to use anyone else’s images. That night I went home borrowed my fathers camera dressed my sister up lit her with some construction lamps and created my first piece of ‘art’. What I didn’t know that night was that I would fall in love. It may have started as an accident but it turned into a full fledged passion of mine that is so much of a part of my life I can’t see myself without it. I use my camera to express life as a whole. I like to capture the innocence within human nature, whether it be of people or of majestic areas. A lot of people take a look at themselves or where they are standing and they take life for granted, they are judgmental and they need to stop and breath in the beauty of everyday life. Thats what I like to capture. Capturing the special moments that make life beautiful. Even people that are experiencing that moment don’t always take a step back to view it the way I do. Thats why I love what I do, I can capture that moment for a life time. Showing people my work and making their moment look effortless is something special. The subject of my images is generally people. I love creating portraits. I specialize in capturing newborn portraits. I came into the love on newborns rather unexpectedly. My best friends sister had a baby and she knew I was a photographer. She asked if I could take her now 9 day old sons pictures. In order to impress her I said of course piece of cake, boy was I in for it. Newborns are difficult, I needed to learn the tricks of being a so called baby whisperer. After a long day of shooting and being have covered in baby throw up I just about passed out. But when I stopped to think about I just captured a moment that will never happen again….I fell head over heels in love. Ever since then I wanted to photograph baby after baby after baby. I was of course very timid because they are such small individual creatures that I felt I could break. But I guess I have a sixth sense for it because they love me I can soothe almost every baby I come in contact with. It has become a great passion of mine to be able to represent these beautiful newborns first moments through my artwork. I never want to stop capturing their first moments.
