The basics

The Undergraduate Catalog houses the academic policy regarding general education courses, called the Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC), required for graduation. Learn how these categories can be fulfilled. Majors may also list required courses that fulfill these SBC categories.

Please Note: The Undergraduate Catalog is updated at the start of each registration cycle. Please refer to the most recent edition by following this link.

Select “The Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC)” from the left side navigation menu to learn more about the categories and general degree requirements.

To see if a major has required courses that fulfill SBC categories, select “Majors” from the left side navigation menu, and select a major from the list. In the example below, see the overview of the Business Management, BS. Continue scrolling to reach the “SBC Courses” section.

In this chart, see a full list of the SBC categories, Required Major Courses, and Optional Major Courses. Meet with your Major Advisor(s) to review your requirements.
