Who You Love
Contents
The classic who vs whom as sung by John Mayer…
“You love, who you love
Who you love
You love, who you love
Who you love
Whom should be used to refer to the object of a verb or preposition. A fun way to remember this is if you can replace the word with “he”’ or “’she,” use who. If you can replace it with “him” or “her,” use whom.
John is referring to a “him/her” so it should be “you love, whom you love.”
A way to remember this is shown in the following diagram:
Who does John Mayer love?
He loves her/him, so it should be “whom.”
