Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance

Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, arguably, a classic in our generation, has broken one of the clearest rules in grammar.

She sings,

“I want your love. I want your revenge. You and me could write a bad romance.”

Answer: It should be “You and I could write a bad romance.”
Why? The reason is that “You and I” is the subject, whereas, “You and Me” is the object.
In standard English, it’s grammatically correct to say ‘between you and me’ and incorrect to say ‘between you and I’. The reason for this is that a preposition such as between should be followed by an objective pronoun (such as me, him, her, and us) rather than a subjective pronoun (such as I, he, she, and we).
Another fun way to remember this rule, is to think, if you take out the “you”, would it be correct to say, “me could write a bad romance” or “I could write a bad romance.” If you can answer that, you’ve got this rule down!
