Week 1 – Introductions (1/31/14)

Normally, for the first class of the semester, I would never expect to learn more than what is on the syllabus. However, this EXT 488 course, being an internship class is quite different. As an internship created to educate and train future Senior Consultants for the Teaching, Learning and Technology (TLT) department, this class only consists of other fellow Student Consultants with a small class size of 13 people. As Student Consultants, apart from helping students and faculties with problems they might have, it is also our job to create awareness for new software or programs that are available to them. In a way, we are liaisons between Department of Information Technology(DoIT) and the rest of the campus.

Today, I learned of SB You, a web publishing platform of Stony Brook. From what Rose has told us about this course, there will be much more to learn and we will be exposed to a lot of things we might not have ever known on our own. Not only are we exposed to newer technology, we also have the opportunity to become familiar with it through the application and usage of this technology. Even right now, I am using the first SB You site I created to write reflective journals each week to mark my journey as an intern to a Senior Consultant. I am really looking forward to this course and hope that this course will meet my expectations, if not exceed.

  1. Excellent post and welcome to the internship! I know that the interns are a critical step between helping faculty discover technologies that can enhance teaching and learning … I love that the emphasis is on more than just learning the technologies and moves into unpacking how they can be used in practical ways to support teaching. Keep it up!
