I chose to do book icons, because I liked books more than my other ideas such as fruits, which also seemed to be more common. The background is just an open book and pages, so viewers can identify what the icon is for. Then the foreground would be the genre of the book. I chose four genres here which were cooking, adventure, romance, and mystery, easily identifiable by the drawings. I prefer it in black and white since white makes the best color for negative space, but for color, I chose whichever color I felt represented the genres the best. Red for hearts, orange for cooking, purple for mystery, and I wanted green or red for adventure, but green didn’t look great on black, so I went with blue instead.
