Photoacoustic Imaging
Photoacoustic Imaging (PAI) is based on the generation of acoustic waves by pulsed light being absorbed by chromophores. PAI exploits the high functional absorption contrast of optical imaging and high spatial resolution of ultrasound imaging. Source of contrast can be intrinsic (label-free) such as melanin and blood or extrinsic due to administrated contrast agents such as gold nanoparticles.
