Oh, how the mighty have fallen. TheĀ Incredibles was one of my favorite childhood movies. It rates very highly with me even to this day, and from how amazing and timeless the first film was it’s evermore painful how bad this sequel really is.

The original movie covers the topics of feeling as though you’ve lost your touch with age, showing the struggles of a man facing the reality that he’s no longer that young man who wants to do all that he can now not. It showed the importance of family and how powerful those bonds could be as well as the fact that past mistakes will eventually catch up with you. It shows a man who learns he needs to be more willing and open with us family and wife and it truly is a touching family movie. Jump to 15 years later, where that same man is now conflicted and jealous of his wife that they got an opportunity that he wanted. Compared to the original this movie is a disgrace; it disrespects the growth of previously established characters and trades in the heart filled message the original had and replaces it with nothing of equal value. It feels like an empty cash grab using the name of a beloved childhood movie just to get money, and it sucks. The animation is good but that’s to be expected of Pixar at this point, so when the story falls so flat it’s just tragic.

If you’re going to watch any film in this franchise let it be the original and don’t even think of the existence of this film. I rate this film a 3/10, just for the fact that it looks really good. The story alone, a 1/10.
