Beyond Sustainable Development Goals: Vision for a Planetary Future

In this course, students will develop an understanding of the key challenges and pathways to sustainable development – that is, economic development that is also socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable.

Sustainability and development pose unprecedented challenges as human societies grow and seek to ensure future wellbeing and prosperity. In this course, we will focus on addressing the twin challenges of sustainability and development with actionable knowledge for innovating solutions to the world’s most pressing problems, such as climate change, hunger, poverty and inequality, cultural diversity, and sustainable cities. We will also examine the history of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), policies that are necessary to achieve them and what tools are available to measure sustainability; and finally, we will attempt to make some predictions on global sustainability for the 21st century.
