Stony Brook Hospital Volunteer (2014 – Present)

Alternative Spring Break Outreach (ASBO)

Treasurer (2015 – 2016)

General Body Member (2014 – 2015)

After joining Alternative Spring Break Outreach in September 2014, I participated in fundraising and outreach projects in local communities on Long Island and New Jersey. These projects involved working with United Way or coordination with the Stony Brook Career center to work on construction or clean-up projects for homes damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Over this past spring break, the organization’s team of 80 student volunteers went to Fort Myers, Florida for a week and worked with Habitat for Humanity to build affordable homes for new homeowners in communities affected by hurricanes. The project emphasized heavily on service learning and team-building.

I then became the treasurer for the organization for the 2015-2016 year. Being in this positions has made me appreciate the effort behind planning a trip for such a large group of students across the country, while organizing events for fundraising, recruiting and additional outreach projects. This experience had strengthened my ability to work as a team, work with other departments or administrations, and most importantly keep an accurate account of the huge sum of money that is involved in running the organization. asbo group pic
